Summary:
PARENT –INFANT THERAPY GROUP
Eastern Health CAMHS and Adult Mental Health Service are
offering a group in Term 4 for mothers, who have had separation
from their baby due to mental health issues.
This separation can make the experience of pregnancy, birth, mothering and
early parenting more complicated, difficult or distressing than expected.
Mothers and babies in this group often find that establishing a close relationship is affected.
The group will run for 12 weeks from Thursday 23 October 2008 to the 11th December 2008 (8 weeks) and then from 5.2.09 to 26.2.2009.
The Group will be held at Wundila CAMHS, Ware Crescent, East Ringwood but will be open to mother – infants who live in the eastern region. Please let us know if assistance with transport is required.
Referrals
Mothers and their babies aged 4-12 months can be referred via the attached referral form.
Aims of the Group
1. To provide a safe forum for mothers to explore the difficult or distressing experiences of pregnancy, childbirth, mothering and baby’s early life that have been complicated by mental health issues and separation – whether by in-patient admission or baby being cared for by others.
2. To help mother and baby to get to know each other better - to understand each other’s signals and ways of communication and bonding.
3. To increase the confidence of mothers in handling their babies.
4. To provide time for mothers and babies to be apart.
5. For mothers and infants to leave the group feeling more settled.
